About “Bomb Shelter”:

“Bomb Shelter” is the first single released by Shonali after the release of her critically acclaimed solo album One Machine At A Time. The pop breezy sounds of “Bomb Shelte”r are a result of what she calls “an undeniable need to melt into a ball of nothingness and just breathe.” The ongoing messiness of the world which also includes the recent passing of her father forced Shonali into a creative hibernation… but THEN she pushed herself to move on with it. She imagined she had joined The Muppets and was just “tagging along and feeling dumb” allowing something light and bright to carry her forward. Writing this song was also a way to process the fact that 24/7 social media feeds will now always be how the majority of people get their news and entertainment. Rather than overthinking, and becoming paralyzed by the relentlessness of it all, with this song, Shonali hopes to give everyone a moment to reset, move and sing together.

About “Private Revolution”:

Shonali releases a cover of the song “Private Revolution”, reminiscent of the Prince-inspired electronic World Party original released in 1986. As a huge fan of singer-songwriter Karl Wallinger (leader of World Party/former member of The Waterboys ), Shonali knew upon Wallinger’s passing in 2024 she had to record one of his songs. “I was always drawn to his songwriting, his one of a kind soulful voice and his commitment to environmental activism early on when no-one was talking about saving the planet.” I love so many of Wallinger’s songs, but this song especially captures the moment we are in now, a time in which we are the ones who must make the change that we want to see in the world.” (You catch the “We all want to change the world” in a round at the end of the song - shout out to Revolution by The Beatles?) Shonali recorded this single in Atlanta, GA with producer Dan Dixon and recruited her friends James Hall and K. Michelle DuBois on backing vocals. Both DuBois and Hall are lifelong friends of Shonali’s, kindred spirits in terms of making music throughout their lives and being committed to social activism and love of this planet. None of this is taken lightly by Shonali. These are precious moments. We must embrace the beauty in the world around us and feel moments of gratitude because history teaches us that nothing is to be taken for granted.

About “Subways Hum”:

“Subways Hum” is the first single released by Shonali in 2025. “Subways Hum” is a moody, atmospheric indie rock song which captures the sense of isolation which can be felt even while living physically close to others in a crowded city. The pulsing, almost hypnotic rhythm mirrors the ebb and flow of city life, while the lyrics tap into feelings of disconnection and longing. There's a cinematic quality to the song, with layers of reverb-laden guitars, piano and subtle, haunting melodies that echo the hum of subway tunnels. Shonali’s statement on “Subways Hum”: “A common thread amongst those of us that are drawn to the chaos of the big city is that even while existing in the middle of a crowd of people, we must still find moments for introspection. There are rhythms to our daily life, which become a part of the landscape in which our minds wander, which include the honking of cabs, and the symphony of sounds emerging from our subways. I wrote this song as I was feeling the loss of great loves in my life and thinking about how transformative love can be while literally feeling the reverberations of the subway under my feet. It felt like I had no choice but to call the song ‘Subways Hum’.”
