Since their formation in Gothenburg in 2008, Makthaverskan has stood out as one of Sweden’s most vital pop bands. With their melodic, post-punk-infused indie pop, the band has captivated both audiences and critics alike. Across four acclaimed albums (Makthaverskan, II, III, För Allting), they have toured extensively in Sweden and the Nordics, as well as throughout Europe and the United States.
Now back in the studio working on their fifth album, Makthaverskan is approaching the music with a renewed focus and undiminished intensity—once again writing songs that aim to leave a lasting mark on the listener. The new material moves even closer to what has always been the core of the band: rawness paired with melodic beauty.
The press has long recognized these contrasts between raw energy and fragile melody. On För Allting (2021), Pitchfork noted that the band maintains its “pitch-perfect blend of post-punk, jangle pop, and shoegaze”, this time with a “full-bodied reflection on regret and stagnation”. Milner’s voice, in particular, was highlighted as “thin but strong, hitting a violent edge as easily as the flick of a butterfly knife”.
That early intensity still resonates live today: Brooklyn Vegan observed that “what really sets Makthaverskan apart… is Maja Milner’s powerhouse voice”, a sign that the band’s raw energy continues to thrive on stage.
Their forthcoming album—now in its final stages of production—brims with emotional choruses, rhythmic drive, and atmospheric layers, pushing the band forward without leaving its essence behind. In short, it is the continuation of an artistic journey where intensity and emotion are always at the forefront, and what defines Makthaverskan as a pop band that leaves a lasting impression on the listener.
