Lemongrab (Berlin, DE) is a garage punk 4-piece known for their raw, cathartic live shows and art punk-fuelled studio efforts. Their influences travel from The Stooges’ proto-punk shenanigans all the way to The Clean’s jangly earworms, taking scenic detours for Pylon’s weirdo pop hooks on their way to Bikini Kill’s riot-friendly neighborhood. The group is currently gearing up to release Another Kind of Freedom, scheduled for September 11th, 2026 via boutique imprints Mothland (CA) and Chrüsimüsi Records (CH).
Originally founded in Montréal, QC by visual artists slash songwriters Gaëlle Cordeau (vocals) and Léonie Dishaw (guitar & vocals), Lemongrab first introduced their patented brand of punk-tinged garage rock to the city’s flourishing underground scene by way of elapsed-play: The Ones with the Brooms (S/R, October 3rd, 2016). The outfit then visited Renny Wilson (Nap Eyes, La Sécurité, Faith Healer) to record It Doesn’t Sound Good but It Feels Awesome (S/R, January 31st, 2019)—a debut full-length flush with beautifully spasmodic rhythms and anachronistic melodies, topped by an anarchist verve—before relocating to Berlin, DE in 2020.
Following the move to Deutschland, came the release of The Wet Album (S/R, November 26th, 2021), a 6-song essay where Lemongrab further embraced their punk ethos. On February 28th, 2024, the group unleashed their sophomore full-length I Spy with My Little Eye via niche tastemakers U-Bac Records (DE). Range’s Maggie McPhee writes: “Since creative partners Gaëlle Cordeau and Léonie Dishaw moved from Montreal to Berlin in 2020, they’ve strutted through psychedelia, post-punk, and straight-up old-fashioned punk, picking up pieces and players along the way. ISWMLE is a haphazard collage of those shards, rough around the edges, epoxied with a thick layer of lo-fi goodness, and tied up with an ironic pink bow. Humour and earworm guitar melodies abound in equal measure.”
In their early days, Lemongrab played house shows, now-defunct DIY spaces, as well as deep dives in their maiden Canada, later touring the United States where they opened for fuzz purveyors, Broncho, in 2019. Since moving overseas, they have sharpened their sound amidst the European underground circuit, making a quick yet lasting impression in the punk scene, later returning to North America for a slew of nicely screechy bills in 2024. Since forming, they have received invitations from festivals such as Synästhesie Fest (Berlin, DE), Supersonic Block Party (Paris, FR), Jenseits von Millionen (Friedland, DE), Sled Island (Calgary, AB), and POP Montréal (QC), also sharing the stage with the likes of L.A. Witch, Bodega, Meatbodies, Das Beat, Cumgirl8, and Shame.
