After five acclaimed albums, Russian electronic musician and producer Kedr Livanskiy returns with a new EP: Pretty Without You. This collection of six tracks, co-written and co-produced with Russian producer vyaliyy, builds on her signature ethereal electronic sound, but takes it in a few more new directions including glitchy breaks, drum’n’bass and even a rap verse.  

Rather than polishing every detail, Livanskiy chooses to leave some tracks in a rawer form, allowing their original emotion to shine through. Livanskiy’s music exists in a landscape somewhere between Aphex Twin and Cocteau Twins, blending airy and atmospheric vocals with gritty and distorted synths, creating a surreal tone that shifts from danceable to introspective. 

The EP opens with “Looose You,” an upbeat electro-pop number that’s an intense portrait of obsession, detailing an unexpected attraction that quickly grows into overwhelming emotion, backed with fast-paced synths and compelling rhythms. “Oh No!” (feat. vyaliyy) shifts into a more sentimental space, exploring the tenderness and uncertainty that define the beginning of a relationship. Together, these two tracks introduce the emotional range that runs throughout the rest of the EP, moving between intensity and intimacy.  

“Born For The Light” is a beautifully uplifting dreamy house track that reflects on the purpose of life and longing for a state of paradise, despite the current state of the world. It captures one of the central themes of the EP: the desire to hold onto hope in uncertain times. 

In Pretty Without You, Kedr Livanskiy returns to the openness of her earlier work while exploring new ideas and sounds.
