San Francisco’s Forrest Nolan releases his highly-anticipated debut album Indie Movie Soundtrack. Indie Movie Soundtrack tells the story of an artist desperate to save a career tanked by his brother/manager’s viral TikTok disaster, while at the same time navigating post-college love. Following music videos for singles “thank you, i guess”, “of everyone in the world…”, and “drama queen”, Nolan weaves clever and zany storytelling through a rollout of DIY videos that build his contagious world. Nolan ends his journey by finally scoring an indie film that he and his brother found on a sketchy craigslist ad as depicted in today’s music video for focus track "my girl could too."
Nolan's music clashes between pop and indie. The songs are inspired by the famous indie romance films of the 2000s such as Garden State and 500 Days of Summer. Moving between heart-spilling love songs and adolescent romance, Indie Movie Soundtrack is a coming-of-age project rooted in great movie soundtracks.
Earlier this year - following a three year break from releasing music - Nolan released the music video for “thank you, i guess”. The music video uses traditional 2-D animation, all hand-drawn and coloured by Nolan and his brother Christopher (a process which took over six months), quickly found online virality among young and inquisitive music fans who are rebelling against the current AI-generated media space. Nolan’s authenticity is helping him connect across the vast social media landscape with the music video currently sitting on 3.3 million views.
Indie Movie Soundtrack is driven by nostalgia but stands on its own two feet through Nolan’s musicianship, ingenuity, DIY spirit and charm. The album’s chronological movement from anguish to triumph is highlighted by Nolan’s knack for winning over his audience - ultimately drawing them into his growing universe.
